Kundapur, Nov 14: “Lorries transporting fish have tanks to store 400 liter waste water but that water overflows inevitably onto the road,” said Karavali Karnataka Chalakara Sangha, chief secretary Mohammed Hanif. He addressed a gathering at a press conference at Kundapur press club on Wednesday evening.

“Lorry drivers also know that waste water from fish should not be spilled on the road, but it is not possible to throw water on the roadside when the tank becomes full. Besides, efforts go waste if fish does not reach the destination within a stipulated time. Lorry drivers do not discharge water with evil intent,” he said.

“We have also submitted requests to the deputy commissioner and DSP in this connection. Officials said that they will respond to our problem and are about to prepare a scheme to reuse the water, but it is necessary to relax the rules till then. Fish lorry drivers are afraid of assaults on the way these days. We too have a home and family. We want to provide a clean environment to them. We drive those lorries for our living. We do not want to spoil the surrounding,” he said.

Karavali Karnataka Chalakara Sangha convener, Salim and Rajesh were present.
