Bangalore, Aug 18: The state Election Commission (EC), unhappy over the unsatisfactory reply furnished to it by the Chief Minister (CM) B S Yeddyurappa on Sunday August 16, in response to the show-cause notice issued by it to him on Friday August 14, has censured the CM.
The EC had sought the CM's reaction on the allegations of poll code violation against him, based on the media reports which said, he had asked the people to vote for the BJP candidates if they wanted good roads and other facilities. When the EC had sought the recording of the speeches allegedly made by the CM in some election meetings organized in villages like Yalandoor, Santemarahalli etc., within Kollegal assembly constituency, to verify what he had said there, the deputy commissioner of Chamarajanagar district had expressed his helplessness, as no recordings were available.
The CM had sought to answer the queries by just saying that he had neither announced new schemes, nor made new assurances other than repeating what schemes the government had already implemented or announced through the budget proposals and claimed that he had not violated the poll code. The Election Commission scrutinized the reply furnished by the CM on Monday and decided to censure the CM for the unsatisfactory reply and advised him to be careful not to violate the code of conduct henceforth. Chief Electoral Officer C S Suranjan confirmed issuance of the censure letter to the CM.
