Bengaluru, Nov 13: Soladevanahalli police succeeded in arresting two persons accused of trying to abduct the son of a businessman and also torched the vehicles parked in front of a house. In the incident, Mohammed Riaz (21) and Mohammed Basit (23), who are natives of Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu, stand admitted into Victoria Hospital here with leg injuries.
Sharat, a PU student, happens to be the son of Srinivas, who operates a purified water supply unit stationed at Neelamaheshwari road in Dasarahalli here. Sharat, who assisted in his father's business after college hours, used to post his photos with high-end motorbikes and cars through Instagram and projected himself to be belonging to an affluent family. Mohammed Riaz, currently residing at Bailappa Circle on Dasarahalli main road and Mohammed Basit, staying at Maheshwari Nagar, had planned to abduct the boy for ransom as both their families which are very poor, had huge loans to repay.
Both of them found out that Sharat lived some distance away from a shop for which they worked. About ten days back, they tried without success to abduct the boy. They called the cellphone of Srinivas at night and demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lac, failing which they threatened to kidnap his son and torch his vehicles and house. As Srinivas did not pay heed to this threat, the accused arrived at the house of Srinivas at Neelamaheshwari Road, poured petrol on four two-wheelers parked in front of his house and torched them. The fire then spread to the house of Srinivas and destroyed many items.
Bagalagunte police who rushed to the spot had scrutinized the crime scene. Special police teams had been formed. Soladevanahalli police inspector, Shivaswamy, after coming to know that the accused were hiding in Nilgiri plantation behind Acharya College in Soladevanahalli, rushed there. When the accused attacked police constables, Srinivas and Mallikarjun, Shivaswamy warned them to surrender and fired in the air, it is said. As they renewed their attempt to attack the police, they were fired at in their legs and arrested.
