Kundapur, Nov 10: “Aadhaar has become inevitable for all the things and is the closest identity card for life. The special initiative by postal superintendent to provide Aadhaar corrections etc. close by is commendable. Let the work of Aadhaar corrections at least in two panchayats in Byndoor Vidhan sabha constituency may take place at a time,” opined MLA B M Sukumar Shetty.
He was speaking after inaugurating Aadhaar camp held by gram panchayat Vandse, Indian posts Udupi division and Vandse sub post office in the cooperation of Matrabhoomi Yuva Sanghatane Atradi, Vandse.
“The post office has preserved its own respect till now. It is known for discipline. It is praiseworthy that the department is taking initiative to provide facilities to the last person of the society by being pro society. It is appreciable that gram panchayat also is repeatedly conducting programmes such as this,” he said.
“Udupi postal department superintendent Sudhakar Devadiga said that postal department has already held 15 Aadhaar camps so far and this is 16th camp. We have aimed to help more than 500 people. People should make use of the opportunity and obtain facilities that are available in the postal department,” he said.
Gram panchayat president Udaya Kumar Shetty said that postal department extended excellent cooperation when the camp was planned so that as many people as possible be helped in Aadhaar corrections and new registrations quickly at a time considering the hardship faced by them in this connection. “Our efforts will be fulfilled if people and village residents benefit by it,” he said.
Postal deputy superintendent A G Merdi, gram panchayat vice president Sharada Rudrayya Acharya, Matrabhoomi Yuva Sanghatane president Sandesh Shetty Adikekodlu, Vandse postmaster Surekha Shetty and staff were present.
Gram panchayat secretary Shanker welcomed. Panchayat development officer Roopa Gopi compered and thanked. People from different villages besides Vandse registered for Aadhaar, corrections, biometrics and included their mobile numbers. Postal department made sure that maximum number of people made use of the camp in seven units.
As many as 454 people had benefited by postal department camp so far. The current camp broke that record as 577 people made use of the camp by being the first such big camp in the state.
