Mangaluru, Nov 9: "A committee has been formed to undertake survey about the financial condition of the Yakshagana artistes from both Tenku and Badatu Thittu styles. It will soon submit a detailed report," said muzrai and fisheries minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.
Speaking to media persons here on Friday November 8, Poojary said that based on the report of the committee, plans will be drawn up for the welfare of the artistes. He said that initially the report will cover Yakshagana Melas being run by muzrai temples, he clarified. He said that in course of time, similar study will be conducted in respect of other Melas.
On the issue of auction of six Yakshagana Melas being run by Kateel temple, he noted that the dispute is before the high court. "In one case, auction has been ordered, while in another, it has been stayed. Muzrai commissioner has sought instructions from the court through the legal advisor. I have discussed with officials and artistes and listened to their grievances. In the commissioner's report, auction has been suggested. We will stick to the decision of the high court," he added.
