Bengaluru, Nov 8: For disrespecting the national anthem by not standing up, Subramanyanagar police have booked a FIR against a group who had visited PVR Cinemas in Orion mall to watch a movie on October 23.

The police had taken up a suo motu complaint after a video accusing the group of moviegoers became viral on social media and later was reported on media.

Subramanyanagar police inspector Sadananda M told media that they have taken up the case under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 and investigations are going on.

The management of PVR Cinemas in Orion mall at Dr Rajkumar Road has been issued a notice to appear before the investigating officer with CCTV footage of the incident along with details of the audience.

Though there is no video that suggests that the group was sitting when the anthem was played, arguments over not standing up for the national anthem resulted in a clash during the movie interval.

Other moviegoers had abused the group using foul language for not standing up.

“We had initially filed a Non Cognizable Report and later registered a FIR after the court permission. We have not received any complaint from any member of the group. We shall examine the case from the other side if they file one,” Sadananda added.
