Mangalore/Udupi, Aug 15: Five suspected swine flu cases in Mangalore and six cases from Manipal in Udupi have been reported on Friday, August14. With five more cases the suspected cases in the Dakshina Kannada (DK) district has gone up to 36.
Among five cases reported from DK district, one is a student of Nitte Engineering College, who is the resident of the city. The others are two medical students from KMC, one among them who arrived from Delhi and the other girl, who is suspected to have contracted from her friends. Another engineering student from Pune, who came to meet his sister in the city too has been exhibiting the symptoms of Swine flu. The last case is of a Beltangady native, who is working in a hotel in Pune. The throat swab samples of the five cases have been sent to KMC, Manipal.
Mangalore so far had seven detected cases with H1N1 virus. Out of which five of them have been cured and discharged from the hospital.
Meanwhile, in Manipal, there are 6 suspected and 7 confirmed cases. Udupi deputy commissioner P Hemalatha informed that there is enough stock of swine flu testing kits and tablets in the district. She also said that the illness is manageable and door-to-door awareness programme too has been taken up at gram panchayat level.
Further, public and private hospitals too have been issued orders to take up precautionary measures and that isolation wards will be arranged in public and private hospitals.
