Bengaluru, Nov 7: The problematic stretch of the prominent Bannerghatta Road facing the prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru (IIMB), Christ University and other leading educational institutions, which had become a nightmare for motorists and other users due to the overflow of sewage has now been made motorable.
BJP’s Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, who inspected the road works on Thursday expressed satisfaction with the repairs of Bannerghata Road stretch and directed the agencies like BMRCL, BWSSB and BBMP to complete the pending work within a week.
The BJP MP had inspected the 3-kms stretch from the Vega City Mall up to the Swagat Junction on Bannerghata Road along with Bommannahalli MLA Satish Reddy and top officials of BMRCL, BWSSB and BBMP on August 24 following complaints from road users as the area is part of his partliamentary constituency.
He had asked the officials to come up with a plan to fix the stretch within ten days and conduct the repairs in two months.
Surya led a review inspection on Thu, Nov 7, to check the progress of the repairs.
In the stretch from Ranka Colony to Arekere Signal on Bannerghata Road, up to 95 % (2,835 metre of 3,000m) of drain de-silting work is complete and the footpath on the Left Hand Side of the road has been relaid.
With a small stetch of road restoration work pending, the civic authorities informed the MP that 58% of the road repair is complete and remaining work will be finished soon.
We need to give more importance to an eminent educational institution and research facility like the IIMB. There were other major hospitals like the Fortis and Apollo. If the roads are always congested and maintenance of sanitation is pathetic, Bengaluru famed medical tourism will suffer. That is the reason the upkeep of these roads is crucial,’’ Surya said.
BMRCL MD Ajay Seth and BWSSB chairman Tushar Girinath, who were also part of the inspection, promised to complete the pending work within a week.
The sewage water flowing in front of IIMB will be redirected. The open drain at the entrance of IIMB should be closed, Surya said.
