Mandya: Chief medical officer sits in dharna protesting against transfer

Daijiworld Media Network - Mandya (SP)

Mandya, Nov 7: Chief medical officer of Gurushantappa government hospital here, Dr Shashila sat in dharna alone in front of the said hospital on Wednesday.

She was registering her protest against the order passed by the higher officials all of a sudden, asking her to report for duties elsewhere. She claims that this transfer was affected due to political influence.

The lady medical officer said that under pressure from political leaders, district health officer, Dr Manche Gowda, had passed an order, asking her to report for duties at the directorate of health department at Bengaluru. She said that issuance of transfer order at a time when her petition filed in Karnataka Administration Tribunal is pending, is wrong.

"Pediatrist of the hospital, Dr Shivaswamy, has been treating me shabbily and underrating me duly mentioning my caste, as I am a Dalit. He has also been committing atrocities. The officials concerned should take steps against him," she demanded.

Dr Shashikala said that she has a son who suffers from certain mental conditions needing her personal supervision, and therefore she cannot travel to Bengaluru from Mandya to work there. She therefore has requested to allow her to continue to work at Gurushantappa government hospital here as before.
