Doha, Nov 7: For the first time in the history, a Chief Minister of Goa will attend the World Goa Day event at Qatar to be organized by Goan Welfare Association (GWA) under the leadership of its president Simon D’Silva.
Dr Pramod Sawant, chief minister of Goa, has consented to be the chief guest. Also in attendance will be P Kumaran, Indian Ambassador to Qatar, and Ricardo Pracana, Portuguese Ambassador to Qatar.

A host of other delegates from around the world and key Goan representatives from the GCC countries are also expected to be present.
World Goa Day celebration is perhaps the only Global Goan event that reminds the Goan community of their identity as Goans.
The event is intended as a day for Goans worldwide to focus, take pride and celebrate their culture, language, traditions, music, cuisine, and more, wherever they are on planet earth.
World Goa Day has now become a signature event worldwide and appears in the calendar of events of every major Goan association worldwide.
After 20 years of its existence, successfully organizing May Queen Ball and other mega events in Qatar, Goan Welfare Association (GWA), one of the notable associations among global Goans, is all set to celebrate World Goa Day 2019 in collaboration with Orbit Events and Marketing with traditional pomp and splendour on November 22 at Crowne Plaza Hotel starting 7.00pm onwards.
GWA has been in the forefront in Qatar for past 20 years. Since inception, the association has rendered yeoman service in nurturing Goan culture and spirit among expatriates.
‘Amchim Bhurgim Amcho Fuddar’ is the theme for the day. While the event will highlight Goan art, culture, traditions, language, music, costumes, etc, the theme of the event has been delicately thought out. Goan students in Qatar who excel well in academic, music and sports will be felicitated.
“The basic idea is to celebrate Goa’s culture and language. ‘Amchim Bhurgim Amcho Fuddar’ will focus on the new generation, and the future identity of Goa,” revealed GWA president Simon D’Silva on the launch of the event poster.
Rocking Goan band R99 will be the star attraction for the event. The band has been making waves performing all over Goa.
Stars are expected to perform include darling of social media Sanio Fernandes from Dubai, melodios singer, Avers Pereira from Muscat, Gulf Voice of Goa fame Slenzitta D’Cruz, Kuwait’s dazzling Konkani singer Esparansa, singer and actress Natcey Barretto, Rhythmic Peppy Pereira, young talents Figo Rodriguese and Viola Pereira.
Gasper Crasto will be the compere and mood setter expected to create ripples, and amusement with his interactions with the crowd right from the start.
A number of talented Goans based in Doha will be part of the celebrations.
Carmo Santos, man behind Kuwait’s famous ‘Airlift’ action during the invasion of Kuwait, and chairman of Goan Cultural Centre, Kuwait, will be one of the GCC delegates.
Agnello Fernandes, senior vice president of Gulf Custody Co, another dynamic Goan based in Kuwait will also attend along with Edson Fernandes, Plant Manager of National Oilwell Varco, KSA, Ramdas Revadkar, manager, Bite International Kuwait, Swapnil Shetker, film director, Ophelia D’Cruz, fashion designer and Walter Nandalike, founder and managing director of Daijiworld Group of Media, Mangaluru.
First time, Prudent Media, a Goan TV Channel will fly in to Qatar to cover the event.
