Mangaluru Nov 7: “Congress party has cheated 930 families, by giving them false hopes that they will be given apartments under Ashraya Scheme at Shakthinagar,” alleged Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyasa Kamath.

Addressing media here on Wednesday, November 6, Vedavyasa Kamath said," Last year, foundation stone was laid and title deeds were distributed under the leadership of then Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo who promised G + 3 flats for the beneficiaries at Shakthinagar. But now the promises made by the Congress is not fulfilled and Congress has shattered hopes of 930 families.”

“The total worth of the project is Rs 61.5 crore for which Rs 13.9 crores is released by central government, Rs 11.76 crore by state government, Rs 21 crore is collected from the instalments paid by the beneficiaries and Rs 15 crore is put in by the MCC. The project met with opposition from the activists and the environmentalists, as the land allotted for the project came under the deemed forest area and there were several constraints. Even after knowing this, the Congress party had initiated the project,” the MLA lashed out.
