Bengaluru, Nov 6: The curtain raiser of the 5th Edition of the Global Exhibition on Services (GES) 2019 flagged off on Tuesday, November 5, at Hotel ITC Maurya, New Delhi in the presence of Piyush Goel, minister for Railways and Commerce and Industry, Government of India.
The minister was joined by dignitaries from Government, Industry across the country and Ambassadors, Counselors, Diplomats from across the globe.
Highlighting the cardinal role being played by the Services Sector in the Indian economy and its burgeoning potential, the Union Minister invited stakeholders across the Indian and international business landscape to leverage on the unique opportunity provided by the event and partake in large numbers to make GES 2019 a truly successful one.
Speaking on the occasion, Darpan Jain, Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce & Industry, said, “The 5th Edition of GES is happening in Karnataka, which is the leader of Services in India, be it in IT, infra or education, the State has shown the way.”
Minister for Commerce & Industries, Government of Karnataka, Jagadish Shettar, lauded the initiative by the Union Commerce Ministry for GES 2019 and said Karnataka has been at the forefront and an early mover in identifying and adopting of services sector, notably in respect of Information Technology since 1997.
With Karnataka’s emerging potential across the Champion Sectors identified by the Government of India and its strengths across the education, wellness, tourism, among others, the Minister assured potential investors and other stakeholders of a window of opportunities that could be fructified into value added business propositions.
It is not just about IT where we are trailblazers, but ‘moving ahead, there are many other service sector verticals which I believe would open up a world of opportunities for entrepreneurship and industry’ said Gaurav Gupta, State Principal Secretary, Department of Commerce & Industries.
Karnataka has always braced itself to contemporary happenings and trends and has aligned itself well in the competitive global environs, reassuring that the future is indeed made in Karnataka, he said.
The curtain raiser to GES 2019 was attended by a large spectrum of dignitaries and stakeholders across verticals. GES 2019 has been scheduled between November 26 and 28 at Palace Grounds Bengaluru.
Karnataka is the Host State to the event organised by Union Commerce Ministry, Govt. of India in collaboration with SEPC and CII.
