Mangalore, Aug 13: Billvas Dubai and Northern Emirates, a reputed social service organization being run by the Billavas, will be distributing scholarships to eligible students hailing from financially backward families, at a ceremony to be organized in the city on Sunday August 16.
The office bearers of the organization informed at a press conference held here on Thursday August 13, that the ceremony, planned to be held at Sri Vishwanatha Kalyana Mantap, Kudroly Sri Gokarnanath Temple in the city at 10.30 am, will be attended by Sri Vikhyatananda Swamiji of Bolyottu Karkala, Jaya C Suvarna, president of Billavas Federation, Ganesh Amin Sankamar, lecturer of St Aloysius College here, H S Sairam, president of Sri Gokarnanatha Temple governing council and K Vishwanath Amin, trustee of Sri Guru Charitable Trust (Regd), as chief guests.
At the programme, scholarships will be distributed to 240 eligible students, while financial assistance will be handed over to four sick persons. In addition, financial assistance will also be extended for providing lunch to the students of Sri Narayanaguru Schol Padubelle. A total of Rs 7, 60,000 would be distributed on Sunday, they revealed.
The organization believes that education paves way for the upliftment of the society, as preached by Sri Narayana Guru and the eligible students were chosen with the help of Sri Guru Charitable Trust (Regd), it was explained. The organization, which has been distributing financial assistance and scholarships since the year 2001, has so far disbursed a sum of Rs 32, 85,000, without taking into consideration the caste or religion of the students, the organization said.
President of Billavas Dubai and Northern Emirates, Mohan Attavar, vice president Pravin Attavar, educational committee secretary Uday Kumar Kateel and public relations officer Vasant Tumbe were present at the press conference.
