Udupi, Nov 4: Annual get together of Health Commission of Udupi diocese and Diocesan Health directory release programme was held at the conference hall, Bishop house Udupi here on Sunday, November 3.
After inaugurating the programme, Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop of Udupi diocese said, “Prevention of diseases is always better than cure. There is need of raising awareness among people about health. Physicians, nurses and Para medical staff has great responsibility in this matter. They all are experts in their field. The church tells about how to protect one’s life. The church teachings (preaching) should be adopted in our professional life. Through that their life should become role model for others.
“Jesus Christ had cured all ill people and helped to overcome from the difficulties they faced. But today he is not with us. Hence his noble service should be continued in the same way. The service of doctors is equal to Jesus’s service. Thus, there is need to rise even more awareness and give information on treatment and sound health.”
Fr Valerian Mendonsa, chancellor of Mother of Sorrows church said, “Let all the doctors continue their service like this. They are doing great job.”
Chief guest of the event Dr Edward Nazereth, orthopaedic surgeon, Fr Muller's hospital, Mangaluru gave a PPT presentation on 'creating health awareness'.
Dr Edward Lobo, director of Diocesan Health Commission, welcomed the gathering. Jeevan Lewis rendered the vote of thanks.
Fr Chethan, PRO was honoured on the occasion. Jeevan Lewis, secretary, diocesan health commission delivered annual report.
Health Commission of Udupi diocese has conducted many awareness activities like diabetes, Cancer, drug and alcohol addiction, Bone density test, general health check-up camps, dental check-up, blood donation and blood grouping.

Mark D'Souza, diocese level physicians, nurses, para medical staffs, spiritual directors and coordinators were present.
