Udupi: Government launches emergency support system 112 telephone number

Udupi, Nov 2: The government has launched Emergency support system 112 telephone number instead of the previous separate 100, 101 and 108 numbers for police, fire brigade and ambulance. The new 112 number is developed under government’s one country, one emergency number 112 project.

People can call 112 for police help as the department has deployed emergency vehicles for the purpose. The call will be received directly by state ERSS (Emergency Response Support System) center and the information will be conveyed to district control room of district police office according to the address of the caller. It will be conveyed to Emergency response vehicle and received by MDT installed in the emergency response vehicle. The police officer/personnel will respond immediately. The official will later inform through the MDT to the district control room about the details of the incident and action taken. Nearly 12 lacs calls have been received in the ERSS center so far. Udupi district police department has requested people to make use the facility.
