Udupi, Nov 2: Deputy Commissioner Jagadeesh has directed officials to submit proposal to the government requesting for permission to open centers to buy paddy in support prices announced by the center for the year 2019-20. He was speaking after presiding over district task force meeting held in the DC office auditorium on Saturday.
“The paddy yield was good this year in the district due to adequate rain. Paddy was grown in 34,730 hectares. The market price of paddy is less than that announced by the union government as the minimum price. The support price announced by the center for the benefit of farmers is Rs 1,815 for general category paddy and Rs 1,835 for grade one paddy,” he said. He asked agriculture marketing officials to submit a proposal to the government for opening purchasing centers in the district.
He asked officials to provide necessary facilities in Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala to store paddy bought in the centers and to appoint graders to test the quality of paddy.
Additional deputy commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, agriculture department deputy director Chandrashekar Nayak, APMC secretary Shivanand and other department officials were present.
