Bengaluru, Nov 2: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has condoled the death of former Minister, Vaijanath Patil who dedicated his life for the development of the Northern Karnataka region.
The Chief Minister visited the Fortis Hospital in Bengaluru, where Vaijanath Patil breathed his last, and paid floral tributes to the leader on Saturday.
Yediyurappa, in his latest term as the Chief Minister after the fall of the H D Kumaraswamy-led JD(S)-Congress coalition government, had renamed the Hyderabad-Karnataka region as Kalyana Karnataka.
In his condolence message he said, "I am deeply saddened by the demise of Vaijanath Patil. He played a crucial role in obtaining special status to Kalyana Karnataka with inclusion of article 371(j) to the Constitution. He had great concerns about the development of Kalyana Karnataka region.
"His contribution as a legislator and two –Minister as horticulture Minister in Ramakrishna Hegde Government and Urban development Minister in the H D Deve Gowda Government is also commendable. In his death we have lost a straight forward politician who fought for his people," Yediyurappa said.
"May his soul rest in peace and may God give the strength to his family and followers to endure this loss,’’ he added.
