Udupi, Aug 10: MLC and president of State Non-resident Indians Cell, Capt Ganesh Karnik, noted that thugs who resort to goondaism and destroy public property in the guise of protecting languages can not be expected to protect any of the languages. He was speaking, after taking part in the Rajapura Saraswat Konkani Folk, Culture and Language festival organized at Bantakal Durgaparameshwari Temple near Shirva in the district on Sunday August 9.
"It is disturbing to note that most of the significant observations, traditions etc., are now-day-days losing their relevance because of the pomp and show attached to them. It is the duty of every member of the communities concerned, to observe and carry forward their traditions, and hand them over to the future generations. There is no need to go in for learning or speaking in English language under any kind of pressure. We can use our own language in our day-to-day life and contribute to its protection," he opined.
Udupi Urban Development Authority chairman M Gokuldas Nayak and Bantakal Durgaparameshwari Temple managing trustee S Ramanath Nayak jointly inaugurated the programme.
Lakshmipura Yennehole Adishakti Mahalakshmi Temple managing trustee Babanna K Wagle and several other dignitaries were present. B Pundalik Marathe delivered introductory address. Ramaraya Phatkar welcomed. Umesh Phatkar proposed vote of thanks. Ramadas Prabhu conducted the programme. Hundreds of people from around the district participated in the programme.
