Mangaluru, Oct 28: “Can we expect development works from BJP, who claim that the state treasury is empty?” questioned former minister Ramanath Rai.

Addressing media here on Monday, October 28, Ramanath Rai said, "When Congress was in power in Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), several development works have taken place in Mangaluru. Can we expect from BJP, who claim that their treasury is empty, any kind of development works? They have also failed to give compensation to the flood affected regions of the state.

“During Congress tenure in MCC, we have undertaken several development works. We have successfully tackled the water scarcity in the city. Development works such as drinking water facilities, Thumbe vented dam, UGD project, concretizing roads, construction of Ambedkar Bhavan, Surathkal market, upgradation of Lady Goschen and Wenlock hospitals and DC office at Padil are all done during the Congress tenure.”

"I urge people to compare the development works that have taken place in Mangaluru and vote Congress back to power in MCC,” he said.

Candidate list finalization in process

When asked about candidate list for upcoming MCC elections, Ramanath Rai said, "The final preparation of candidate list is on and we will soon announce the same. We will consider the new comers as well as the seniors who have done some good work.”

Former mayor Shashidhar Hegde, former district Congress president Ibrahim Kodijal, Congress leaders Vishwas Das, R K Prithvi Raj and others were present.
