Raichur, Aug 8: Veteran Kannada play back singer P B Srinivas, overcome by happiness over the honour of 'court laureate (Asthana Vidwan)' conferred on him by Mantralaya Sri Raghavendraswami Mutt near here, felt that the honour was bestowed upon him because of the good deeds he might have rendered in his previous births. He was speaking after receiving the honour at the 338th 'Aradhana Mahotsav' of Sri Raghavendraswami at Mantralaya on Friday August 7.
"It is true that I have won several awards and honours, both national and international. But this award is special. If I doubt my eligibility to receive this honour, it would amount to disrespecting the Mutt scholars who have chosen me," he noted. He felt, his singing was fine-tuned since his childhood because of the fact that connoisseurs of music heard him and supported his music.
Spiritual head of the Mutt Sri Suyateendrateertha Swamiji conferred the honour on him. Administrative officer of the Mutt R Prabhakar said, P B Srinivas knows eight languages and has sung over 25,000 songs. Srinivas also is special because of various songs, ghazals etc.,he has written in Kannada, Tamil and Telugu, Prabhakar added.
Raja S Rajagopalachar, personal secretary of the Swamiji, welcomed. Sanskrit College principal Vadirajacharya presented the programme. Samprati Mohan rendered the prayer.
