Udupi, Oct 26: Deputy Commissioner, G Jagadeesha in a press release provided precautions to be taken while bursting crackers during Deepavali festival.
“Fireworks should be bought only from approved and authorized dealers. Precautions mentioned on the fireworks should be strictly followed. A candle or an Agarbatti should be used to light them. A bucket filled with water should be kept close to the place where the fireworks are lighted. Dangerous fireworks should be lit in an open space where they may fall down. Fireworks should not be held in the hand while lighting, but should be placed on the ground and people should stay at a good distance from them after lighting them. No tin or vessel should be used to set fire to them. Fireworks should not be set on fire near high boundary walls or electric cables nor should they be used inside the house, but should be set on fire as far as possible from the residence. Fireworks should not be burst on public roads.
Counterfeit, illegal and foreign fireworks should not be used. If the fireworks fail to burst, they should be put in a bucket of water after observing for 15 to 20 minutes. Fireworks that cause excessive sound should not be set on fire. Parents should accompany children bursting fireworks. Fireworks may be burst only between 8 pm and 10 pm.
Dealers should not sell imported fireworks. Legal action will be taken against them if they do so. Suitable action will be taken against unauthorized sale of fireworks,” states the release.
