Bantwal, Oct 24: Home minister Basavaraj Bommai said that a clear cut decision will be taken soon, after conducting a meeting at Bengaluru, with regards to shifting of office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Dakshina Kannada district.
Bommai spoke to the press on Thursday, in the taluk, after holding a meeting with the police officers of western range at the inspection bungalow here. Responding to the question posed by the scribes of whether the SP office will be shifted to Puttur or Bantwal, he replied that it will be decided soon.
Bommai further said, "Action will be taken to upgrade Bantwal police station. Separate circle inspectors will be deputed for city and rural areas of Bantwal. Accordingly, the number of police personnel will also increase. This action is being taken as Bantwal is a sensitive area."
Bommai also said that he has given instructions to strengthen the coastal security force and to take maximum action to safeguard the coastal area. Bommai said, "Karnataka has the highest number of police quarters in the country. The percentage of police quarters, which is 60% now, will be increased to 80%. In addition, we will also implement people-friendly system of common public to join with the police doing night duty."
MLA Rajesh Naik, Bantwal zone BJP committee president Devadas Shetty, town municipality president Govinda Prabhu, state co-spokesperson Sulochana Bhat G K, chief secretary Ramadas Bantwala, taluk panchayat member Prabhakar Prabhu, Purushotam Shetty, Udaya Kumar Rao Bantwal, Ramanath Rai and Sudarshan Baja were present.
Bommai, who visited Bantwal for the first time was welcomed by MLA Rajesh Naik and tahsildar Rashmi S R. He was also accorded guard of honour by the police department.
In the meeting that was held with police officers of western range, IGP of western range Arun Chakravarthy, DK SP Laxmi Prasad, Udupi district SP Nisha James, Chikkamagaluru SP Harish Pande, Uttar Kannada SP Shivaprakash, Puttur DySP Dinakar Shetty and other top police officials took part.
The security arrangement for the minister was taken care by Bantwal circle inspector T D Nagaraj, SIs Chandrashekhar, Prasanna and ASIs of various police stations.
The home minister also held the progress report meeting of security arrangement in the wake of the upcoming MCC elections at the Tourist Bungalow of the taluk.
