Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Oct 24: As Deepavali, also known as Diwali festival, is approaching, in the interests of protection of public property and health and property of individuals, and to minimize environmental pollution and noise pollution, use of firecrackers which make sounds in excess of the limits prescribed by the Supreme Court has been banned as per environment protection rules 1999, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board release said.

Bursting of firecrackers has been banned from 10 pm to 6 am. They cannot be used in areas notified as silent zones.

"Use of firecrackers in small streets in towns and cities gives rise to chance of harming the residents there besides exposing them to dangers from explosions and fire. Therefore, the people should use green firecrackers only in open grounds. Diwali should be celebrated as a festival of lights without using firecrackers," the release added.

I fully agree with the pollution board but this restrictions should have been done much and much before Diwali. In US firecrackers are used without smoke. It is only colorful lights with no smoke.

Think to rethink if your festivals are disrupting the environment.
Water pollution during ganesha Chaturthi . Air and sound pollution during Deepavali should be condemned.
Keep it limited to your homes if you still want to celebrate.

When we burst crackers, when the smoke and toxic pollutants gets mixed with the air we breath, it affects the health of all the people, it will not discriminate between Hindu, Muslim and Christian.
As it is Pollution is increasing day by day, so some strict rules need to be implemented for all kinds of celebrations irrespective of religion and purpose.
Either we all live in peace or we all die in misery, choice is yours.

During BJP's election victory (LS/Assembly) fire works took place without any hesitation or time limit !
The rule/regulation should apply to any occasion.

Rules will only be in books and applicable to innocent public who live their life with difficulty.
It does not apply to rich, affluent, rogues and of course it will never be questioned in case of all major political parties.
Jai ho.. For name sake our country is democratic. Now since 2014 it has become fascist.

fire crackers are not only used during Diwali & BJP won the election. it also used during Christmas, new year celebrations & Eid. but the people use the same crackers for all the above occasion. I don't know why you are only highlighting Diwali & BJP's celebration. or it is yours hidden agenda?

this is just eye wash. The pollution board will never visit the stalls and stop them from selling firecrackers which cause pollution.

Every year same story. the biggest fear is that in some parts of the city, people fire crackers on road when two wheelers and pedestrians are walking. This should be taken care of.
