Udupi: State govt to establish centre for Bioincubator at Manipal Academy

Udupi, Oct 22: A press meet was conducted by M S Ballal, Vice-Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education at the College conference Hall in Manipal on October 22 regarding the inauguration of Bioincubator which is to be established with the joint venture of Karnataka government and MAHE .

Government of Karnataka is establishing a centre for Bioincubator at Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal on October 25, 2019. The center will be inaugurated by deputy chief minister, Dr Ashwath Narayan, who is also the minister of Higher education, IT, BT, Science and Technology and Medical Education. The inauguration of the center will be at 10am, which will be followed by a stage programme in the Chaitya Hall of Fortune Inn Valley View.



Bioincubator provides the world class facilities, infrastructure and services for incubation of start-ups in various domains of biopharma, biomedical devices, dental innovation, biotechnology, healthcare and diagnostics.

Satyamurthy said that young entrepreneurs can present their ideas and if the ideas are accepted by the panel it will be supported by the MAHE and the university will host them. It is seen that not only biotechnology, medical related or engineering related innovations but also any ideas or innovations, which could better the society, bring the change and provide employment to many students is given more focus. Karnataka government has sanctioned 3 crores in the beginning and it will be supporting by providing 50 lakhs of rupees every year. An approximate of 6.25 crores of rupees will be sanctioned by the Karnataka Government. Mahe has provided 10000 square feet of area for this and contributed 75 lakhs to this.

Hari Upadhyaya said that earlier in 2010 a incubator was set up with the help of Government of India. Now both the incubators will be present in the same place. Not only students and faculty but also any student from any college or a public can pitch their innovative ideas in the form of presentations in front of the panel. The main intention is to promote research and development, focus on entrepreneurship and also see that more and more employment is generate to the youth.
