Beltangady, Aug 3: Food and civil supplies minister H Halappa directed the officials of his department to verify the existence of illegal ration shops and take steps to cancel them within a week. He gave this direction at the progress review meeting of his department, held at the local taluk panchayat auditorium on Sunday August 2.
The minister issued the above instruction, after MLA Vasant Bangera complained that several families from the taluk that are rich, have secured two to three ration cards each, at the cost of poor people. Halappa also clarified, that the distribution of ration card has been delayed because of a technical problem faced by the private company to which the task was entrusted. If the said company fails to rectify the problems and distribute the cards at the earliest, it would be penalized, he informed.
In-charge district deputy commissioner Prabhakar Sharma, MLA Angara, zilla panchayat president Venkat Dambekody, zilla panchayat member Bhageerathi etc., were present.
