No Differences Between Government, Congress on Joint Statement: Rahul

New Delhi, July 30 (IANS): The ruling Congress and the government are "absolutely one" on the issue of the India-Pakistan joint statement, party general secretary Rahul Gandhi said Thursday.

"The Government and party are absolutely one... You media have created such an impression (of differences)," Gandhi told reporters in the Parliament House complex.

He was replying to a question on the reported differences between the party and the government over the joint statement issued after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani in Egypt July 16.

Gandhi's comments assume importance in the wake of allegations hurled by the opposition in the parliamentary debate alleging that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was not backed by his own party on the issue.

His remarks came hours after the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) meeting in which party president Sonia Gandhi made it clear that dialogue with Pakistan can be resumed only after the country takes action against the perpetrators of terrorist attacks against India.
