Brahmavar, Oct 14: A complaint has been filed in Kota police station about a man from Thekkatte having been cheated of ten lac rupees. The man who was taken for a raid said in his complaint that a person who offered to sell him gold coins he claimed he got from a hidden treasure, collected advance amount of ten lac rupees and gave spurious gold in exchange thereof.
The complainant, Uday Mendon (43) from Thekkatte, was contacted on mobile phone by a person known as Mahesh. Mahesh claimed that he had gold coins unearthed from a hidden treasure and that he was willing to sell the coins to Mendon at concessional rate. Uday Mendon, who believed this story to be true, went to Hospet on August 20 and collected two gold coins as sample. He got the coins tested through Seetharam Acharya of Sridevi Jewellers Kota who confirmed that the coins were genuine.
Thereafter, Mahesh frequently began to call Mendon, urging him to collect the remaining coins. When Uday Mendon revealed that he did not have enough money to buy all the gold, Mahesh offered to hand over coins upon payment of ten lac rupees, with the condition that the remaining Rs 15 lac will have to be paid within the next two months.
Mendon and Acharya pooled together five lac rupees each and went to Chitradurga at the advice of Mahesh, with ten lac rupees. After collecting the coins, they brought them back and tested. It was found that the coins were not made from genuine gold and they were cheated. Thereafter, Mahesh has not been reachable over phone.
On the basis of complaint filed by Uday Mendon, Kota police have registered a case against Mahesh under sections 406, 417, 34 and 420 of Indian Penal Code.
