New Delhi, Jul 29: Union railway minister Mamata Banerjee had set aside time on Tuesday July 28, to meet a delegation from Karnataka that was to meet her to press for the demands of the coastal Karnataka, like cancellation of the proposed extension of Bangalore-Mangalore train to Kannur and instead, extending it to Karwar, extending the proposed super fast train between Mumbai and Karwar to Mangalore and starting of day-train services between Mangalore and Bangalore etc.

Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha member Nalin Kumar Kateel, Kanara MP Anant Kumar Hegde, State's representative in Delhi V Dhananjay Kumar and Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Srinivas Kamath were some of the members of the delegation that went to meet the railway minister.  Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry director Yatiraj Shetty and National Organization of Bank Workers secretary Jagannath Shetty also were part of the delegation. As Mamata Banerjee could not reach New Delhi in time due to unavoidable circumstances, minister of state in the railway ministry, K H Muniyappa, received the delegation and discussed issues with it, Kateel said.

He informed that Muniyappa has promised to positively consider the issues of running of a day-train between Bangalore and Mangalore, extension of Bangalore-Mangalore train to Karwar, extension of the proposed Mumbai-Karwar super fast train to Mangalore on priority.
