Bantwal, Oct 11: The potholes and damaged patches of the national highway between B C Road and Mani are being repaired now. The people, who encountered traffic jams on account of the repair work, were happy that the travel on this route will be smooth as against bumpy ride experienced by them as of now.

During the rainy season, the road had turned into a stretch of ups and downs which the people dreaded to cross. The department used to pour crushed stones into these holes to provide relief to vehicle drivers, but on account of rains and heavy traffic, the crushed stones used to get ejected out of the potholes within a couple of days. As the rain was heavy, the potholes got bigger and deeper.

Former minister B Ramanath Rai, had led a rally of protesters in this respect from Melkar to B C Road to attract the attention of the department. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, who held a meeting of national highway officials, had instructed them to undertake patch work and complete it before October end.

The national highways department has now begun repair work starting from B C Road. The entire work may take a few days to finish.

There are damaged road stretches and potholes all the way to Addahole. The people hope that the potholes now filled do not get damaged again if there is some rainfall. In the meanwhile, Mangaluru city police commissioner Dr Harsha P S, has said that in case of accidents on account of wretched state of roads, cases would be registered against the departments concerned.
