Udupi, Oct 10: In an incident which happened opposite Raghavendra Math on Car Street here on Wednesday October 9, two persons who convinced a pedestrian that they were policemen, relieved him of gold ornaments.
Vittal Shetty was walking by Car Street here, when two men on a motor bike accosted him. They told him that they were policemen. They informed him that some commotion was in progress ahead and asked him to safely keep the jewellery he was wearing in a piece of cloth which they offered. Shetty handed over the gold to them for packing them in the piece of cloth. They acted like keeping the ornaments inside the cloth and firmly tying it after which they handed over the cloth to Shetty.
Laer, Shetty untied and checked the cloth piece and found that the cloth did not contain the ornaments. The value of jewellery lost has been estimated at Rs 1.25 lac.
A case about this incident was filed in the town police station here. The police who have collected all details, are probing the incident.
