Chamarajnagar, Oct 10: Since sometime, propagation of Christianity and religious conversions had been going on in full swing in Kollegal and Hanur areas. On Wednesday October 9, the locals confronted some missionaries who were engaged in propagation of their religion in Kunagalli village in the taluk. Realizing that the situation was going out of hand, the propagators decamped from the spot.

Some devotees attached to a church in Kollegal had visited Kunagalli village and were undertaking door-to-door visit. Some people received them with respect and offered tea and biscuits. After sometime, some young people took the visitors to task and protested against propagation of their religion. The team of visitors then exited from the village, the villagers said.

It is alleged that the religious propagators have been targeting poor classes settled in Hanur and surrounding places and convince them to change their faith. They have distributed pamphlets and got many converted by offering to adopt their children, provide free education, build houses for them, payment of monthly pension etc.

Relating to the above information, priest of Abenezer Brethren church Fr Benjamin, said that a team from the church had visited villages to spread good messages and nothing else.
