Bengaluru, Oct 10: Central crime branch (CCB) officials raided the central prison at Parappana Agrahara here on Wednesday, October 9. During the raid, the officials recovered ganja, knives, daggers, and some other items.

The team conducted a surprise raid on the prison. The raid was conducted based on information that the inmates of the prison were indulging in illegal activities. They found ganja, pipes used for ganja consumption, daggers, 37 knives, and mobile sim cards. Joint police commissioner, Sandeep Patil, said that things illegally possessed by the prisoners were seized.

"We have planned to strengthen the law and order situation in the city and to do away with rowdy activities. We conducted the raid in the early morning during which each barrack was individually searched. We have discussed with the officials about the recovery of drugs, lethal weapons, mobile phones, sim cards etc. We got information about the prisoners who were imprisoned for their involvement with criminal activities, continuing with these activities even after they were jailed. In the interests of the investigation, some information needs to be concealed. We will undertake further investigation into the matter," he stated.

An under-trial prisoner lodged inside this prison had died a few days back. There were allegations that illegal activities going on inside the prison had caused his death. It is said that relatives of prisoners when delivering food, fruits etc to their close ones, pass on ganja without getting noticed by the security personnel. In this background, the raid was conducted from morning to evening, sources said.

Parappana Agrahara prison has a lot of security personnel looking after the security of the prison. Still, there is surprise and suspicion about the way the arms, drugs and other items got into the prison.
