Mangaluru, Oct 9: International Music Day was celebrated on October 6 by Mandd Sobhann Singing group, during the 214th monthly repertory programme at Kalaangan in the city.
In the beginning of the programme rich tributes were offered to Jerry Bajjodi, Gopala Gowda and Harry Boy, who died recently.
Twin brothers from Malpe Donald D'Silva and Ronald D'Silva, who are experts in the repair of musical instruments since 50 years were conferred the title of 'Vadya Visharada' and felicitated on the occasion by the newly elected president of World Konkani Organization, Joy Fernandes, Goa.
A cheque of Rs one lac, which was donated by artistes and the fans of Mandd Sobhann, was handed over to Laveen D'Souza, wife of late Jerry Bajjodi by Sunil Monteiro, coordinator of Sumel.
At the same time, 'Ye Ghaara Kulaara' Konkani audio CD of Jerry Bajjordi which was produced by Joyful Beats was released by Eric Ozario.
Luvi Pinto, Irene Rebello and Kavita George were present on the dais.
Once the stage programme was over, 'Sageet Sansar' event was presented by the team which consisted of children, youth singers and senior artistes.
