Madikeri, Oct 9: A man and his sister-in-law fought over monetary dispute. The quarrel ended in the murder of the man.
The person who lost his life was Shivu, resident of Hale Kudige village. The accused, identified as Yashoda and Harini, stand arrested.
Shivu, who was unmarried, used to work for a coffee curing company at Kudlur industrial extension. After his mother died, he was looked after by his mother's elder sister, Laxmamma. Yashoda happens to be the daughter of Laxmamma. Harini happens to be Yashoda's daughter and all of them stayed in the same house.
Shivu and Laxmamma had together taken a house in Kudige on lease basis. The lease period was nearing its end, and the owner was expected to return the deposit money and take back the house. Shivu reportedly asked other family members to pay him one lac rupees when the owner of the house returns the deposit amount.
When Laxmamma was away visiting her native place, fight broke out between Shivu and Yashoda on this issue. Yashoda and her daughter, Harini, together attacked Shivu with iron bars, as they feared that they would have to pay money to him, it is said.
Some locals who saw Shivu lying in a pool of blood near his cot, informed the police. Kushalnagar rural station house officer and staff visited the spot and arrested the accused. District superintendent of police, Dr Suman D Pannekar conducted spot visit.
