Mangaluru, Oct 8: A Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) programme on Diet for Health was organized by the Continuing Nursing Education Cell of the Nursing Service department on October 3, 4 and 5.
The speaker, Sandis Joseph, dietitian, Father Muller Medical College Hospital, highlighted the importance of consuming a well balanced diet for better health with the seven essential factors for a balanced diet : Carbohydrates, protein, fat, fiber, vitamins, minerals and water which are needed to be taken in an adequate amount. She also explained the food items which need to be avoided or included with regard to specific diseases and emphasised that, consumption of proper diet is essential for the better prognosis of the patients, along with the medications.
The main reason for this CNE was to make the lifestyle dietary changes for oneself and to help in educating patients and children on eating habits and consumption of balanced diet.
The CNE was inaugurated by Renita Noronha, ANS. Vote of thanks was delivered by Renita Lasrado, ANS. Sr Flossy gave a token of appreciation to the CNE speaker. Organising secretary was Neha Maria Joy, ANS. Sr Janet D’Souza, chief nursing officer, heads the Nursing Services department of FMMCH.
