Mysuru, Oct 7: Police have sounded high alert in the districts of Mysuru and Mandya in the wake of the news that NIA has arrested four suspected terrorists belonging to the extremist outfit Hizbul Muzahideen, who allegedly planned to carry out bomb blasts during the Jamboo Savari procession of Dasara festival in Mysuru.
Intense search operation is on everywhere in both the districts. Bomb disposal squad and canine squad are checking places like Srirangapatna railway station, bus station, tourist spots like KRS, Nimishamba temple, Summer Palace, Gumbaz, and Madrasa near Tharipura Bore. In addition, police are also carrying out search at lodges and hotels. Intelligence officers are tracking people who look and move suspiciously. The security around KRS dam has been increased.
Responding to the situation, police commissioner of Mandya K Parashurama said, "The arrest of suspected terrorists in the district is just a rumour. High alert is not declared anywhere. As tourist inflow to the district is more due to Dasara, the security has been beefed up."
District-in-charge minister of Mysuru, V Somanna said that there is no threat of terror attack for the Dasara festival. He was responding to the rumours that are making rounds that four Hizul terrorists were arrested by the police. He further said that these kinds of rumours are spread to scare the public and government will take care to avert all untoward incidents.
