Mangaluru: Khader unhappy about condition of roads, state of street lights

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru Oct 4: "The district administration should take immediate steps to repair the roads and street lights ahead of upcoming Mangaluru Dasara," said former minister and MLA, U T Khader.

Addressing the media here on Friday October 4, U T Khader said, "Scores of tourists arrive here to witness the grandness of Mangaluru Dasara, but when they notice the bad condition of roads and street lights that are not working. This sight paves way to wrong impression about the city in the minds of the tourists. The roads at Nanthoor and Pumpwell have completely been damaged. The least the district administration and state government can do is to take emergent steps to at least to maintain the basic amenities in satisfactory condition."

He also said, "Chief minister, B S Yediyurappa, should bring out white paper with regard to financial condition of the state. When Yediyurappa took over charge, he had said that the treasury was full. Now, his government is claiming that it has no funds. As the contrasting statements from the government have been confusing the people, he should bring out a white paper on the current financial standing of the government," he demanded.

He also said, "Central government has rejected the report of the state government pertaining to claim of flood compensation. The union government has been treating our state as its enemy, and we condemn this attitude. If the state government's report was not proper, central government should have considered the report of the central team which visited the state and released the grant. Karnataka stands completely neglected on account of internal politics. As the BJP is in power at the centre, it should have been easier for the state leaders to convince the union government to release funds. It appears that there are no capable BJP leaders to represent our state. I urge the central government to stop treating the people of Karnataka as its enemies and start working for the welfare of the state."

When it comes to the Roads quality and Country rankings, The average for 2018 was 4.03 points. The highest value was in Singapore: 6.4 points and the lowest value was in Haiti: 2 points. As per the rating of the World Economic Forum India stands 4.40 out of 10 points.

In India, the government's perception of 'Safety' on roads means four tires of the vehicle spin while peddling on acceleration and comes to halt while hard braking. Even if one occupant survives the crash it means road is safe.

There is no safety board like the EU and the USA in India. So even 'highway coffin' like Maruti Suzuki which has the least safety standard can ply on Indian roads rejected in advance countries.

What more worrying factor is our own Union Minister of Transport Nitin Gadkari statement justifying the steep hike in increasing the fines saying it is for passenger own safety despite India having one of the lowest substandard roads.
One of the classic examples of our quality is newly opened 'Thokottu flyover' which developed cracks in a few days of opening. the clearance of the bridge height considering the heavy vehicle is a disaster in waiting.
India Badal Raha Hai, but the quality of infrastructure has never improved with time.

Most comments here support bad roads. Look at NH66. For the past six years its in worst shape, moreover we pay toll too! I think our MPs are incompetent! I wonder whether they do not travel on NH66.

Khader bhai have the memory loss sickness. When Thokkot flyover work began he and his gang vandalised the barricades saying flyover was unscientific. After some adjustments he bowed to NHA and made Thokkot devided and now it is a hazardous fly over.
