Kasargod, Oct 4: The police raided several spots at Alur, Bekal and Chetukundu on the banks of River Payasvini, seized large quantity of illegally extracted sand, and destroyed two boats and two docks built at these places for collecting sand.
The raids were led by Adur police inspector Prem Sadan and sub-inspector Vishnudas. Two loads of sand was seized and poured into the rivulet. A boat was destroyed by using a backhoe. Two illegally built sand docks and roads laid to these spots were also destroyed.
Bekal police sub-inspector, Ajit Kumar, led a team of police to Bekal rivulet where another boat was destroyed. Some workers engaged in sand extraction, fled by using another boat. During the raid at Pallikere Chetukundu led by sub collector, huge quantum of sand was confiscated and a lorry was seized.
During the raid at Shria Balayam where arrangement was made to hide sand, a case was registered against Ibrahim (45) by the Kumble police. A large heap of sand hidden in the backyard of his house was confiscated.
