Mangaluru, Oct 2: New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) has mooted a proposal to have a taxi hub outside the port for the cruise ship travellers as it will be very convenient for them to visit places of interest in and around Mangaluru, said NMPT chairman A V Ramana.
Addressing the media here on Tuesday, October 1, A V Ramana said, "The hub will have sections meant for both the taxies and auto rickshaws. It would be convenient for the tourists to explore places in Mangaluru independently. The pre-paid taxis and buses are already functioning near the NMPT which are used by the tourists at berth number 4.
He also said, "We even plan to forward a proposal to chief secretary with regard to helicopter services for the tourists to explore place in and around Mangaluru.
"The NMPT port has been conferred with the 'Clean Port' award for the two consecutive years among 12 ports in the country. As a part of Swacchatha Pakhwada initiative from September 16 to 30, NMPT has conducted cleanliness drive in and around NMPT. During this period NMPT has educated people about cleanliness by way of staging street plays, spreading knowledge on how to dispose wastes and we gained good result from this program," he explained.
'We have conducted cleanliness drive in places like Nandaneshwara park, JNC hall premises , beaches, Meenakalia village, Thannirbhavi, Medical camp at Meenakalya village, APMC market Baikampady, presenting of street play against use of plastic etc. Apart from these initiatives, elocution and essay competitions were also conducted and prizes were distributed," A V Ramana stated.
