Mangaluru: NMPT plans taxi hub to serve passengers of cruise ships

Mangaluru, Oct 2: New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) has mooted a proposal to have a taxi hub outside the port for the cruise ship travellers as it will be very convenient for them to visit places of interest in and around Mangaluru, said NMPT chairman A V Ramana.

Addressing the media here on Tuesday, October 1, A V Ramana said, "The hub will have sections meant for both the taxies and auto rickshaws. It would be convenient for the tourists to explore places in Mangaluru independently. The pre-paid taxis and buses are already functioning near the NMPT which are used by the tourists at berth number 4.

He also said, "We even plan to forward a proposal to chief secretary with regard to helicopter services for the tourists to explore place in and around Mangaluru. 

"The NMPT port has been conferred with the 'Clean Port' award for the two consecutive years among 12 ports in the country. As a part of Swacchatha Pakhwada initiative from September 16 to 30, NMPT has conducted cleanliness drive in and around NMPT. During this period NMPT has educated people about cleanliness by way of staging street plays, spreading knowledge on how to dispose wastes and we gained good result from this program," he explained.

'We have conducted cleanliness drive in places like Nandaneshwara park, JNC hall premises , beaches, Meenakalia village, Thannirbhavi, Medical camp at Meenakalya village, APMC market Baikampady, presenting of street play against use of plastic etc. Apart from these initiatives, elocution and essay competitions were also conducted and prizes were distributed," A V Ramana stated.

    until and unless the roads, footpaths, parking area etc are improved in and around the city, there is no chance of improvement of tourism in this city.
    As a thoroughbred managalurian, I do not venture out from Kottara down towards Kulur or panambur.
    I have not visited the panambur beach for the same reason since three years.
    The roads are the worst.
    Just see the stretch between bikkarnakatte kaikamba to kulshekhar. My goodness. If you are riding a two-wheeler you must be really careful not to fall into the huge craters on the road.

    The administration of mangaluru is the worst. Highly corrupted and very slow.

    I guess he went to NMPT by helicopter and did not see unworthy roads of Panambur and NH66. My suggestion is Taxi and Auto has no motorable roads. Allcurrent MP and MLAs are shameless otherwise they would have repaired NH66 which is beyond the use of any road transport vehicles!

    Hope NMPT taxi service hub will not end up like the Taxi Mafia at Mangalore Airport. We people of DK are not very favorites of foreigners because of our aggressive and cheating nature. This is the reality and let's accept it.

    The most urgent need of the hour is proper and clean public rest rooms for tourists at each and every place of interest in the twin districts.

    There is nothing more important than that. If the government cannot handle that, they please invite the private sector to build and maintain these facilities. They could charge a fee as in many European countries for usage of these facilities.

    In Europe the fee varies from 50 Euro cents to 2 Euros for usage of toilet facilities and in some places even up to 5 Euros for luxury toilets. Tourists therefore will not paying 40-50 Rupees provided the facilities are clean and hygienic.

    If you make the cruise stay little longer in Mangalore we can explore Belur, Halebidu and Shravanabelagola. Of course you are talking about helicopters. Good idea. You can explore even Hampi, Bijapur and other places like Mysore. But please look into the longer stay at Mangalore. All the best.

    Travel Tourism work begins. Thanks C.T.Ravi. Others are busy in phone tapping case. Development only happen during bjp rule. People much aware. For that reason assembled near in large number from bajpe to nehru maidan during last modiji's visit.
