Bengaluru, Oct 2: A Delhi court has extended judicial custody period of former Karnataka minister, D K Shivakumar, till October 15. It has also permitted the enforcement directorate (ED) officials to question him on October 4 and 5. Therefore, this prominent Congress leader, who is facing charge of money laundering, will have to remain inside Tihar jail at a time when the entire nation is celebrating Dassara.
On expiry of his judicial custody period, Shivakumar was produced in the court on Tuesday. On that occasion, enforcement directorate sought extension of his judicial custody period and permission to question him in Tihar jail. Before that, judge of the special court, Ajay Kumar Kuhar, dismissed the bail petition moved on behalf of Shivakumar. The court took into view the fact that Shivakumar is an influential person and hence felt that there are chances of him influencing the witnesses or destroying documents.
Shivakumar, Hanumanthaiah, an employee of Karnataka Bhavan at New Delhi, and some others, had been named by the ED in a money laundering case it filed during September this year.
