Udupi, Oct 1: Police have alerted all jewellery shop owners to beware of a gang that cheats on the pretext of buying gold. It is believed that this gang has landed in the city of Udupi on Monday, September 30.
On the morning of September 30, the same gang is believed to have cheated a jeweller in Koppa taluk of Chikkamagaluru district. They come in a car, the registration number of which is also said to be fake as per the information shared by the police with media.

It is believed that there are two or three members in this gang. The modus operandi followed by these robbers is that they buy the golden ornaments and then pay the money through online. But the money does not get credited to the account of the jewellers. The jewellers of Koppa who was taken for a ride by this gang has filed a complaint with the police.
The Udupi police department has requested the public to inform them if they come across any suspicious looking gang of people.
