Mangaluru, Oct 1: On September 30, Milagres College in collaboration with Mangalore University, organized a one-day training programme on ‘Drug Abuse, Anti-ragging, Sexual harassment, and Environmental Protection’ in the college auditorium.
Prof P L Dharma, chairman, department of Political Science and Mass Communication and Journalism was the chief guest and speaker of the programme. Fr Joseph Lobo, correspondent, Fr Michael Santhumayor, principal, Prof Lourdusamy, academic adviser, Anju Thomas and Eva Manorama, programme conveners were present on the dais.
Fr Michael Santhumayor welcomed the gathering and introduced the guest speaker. Prof P L Dharma, in his address emphasized the significance of educating youth regarding Sexual harassment and ragging that can take place in institutions of higher learning. He said that students must become aware of their roles as responsible citizens and strive towards achieving great heights rather than falling prey to these social and sensitive issues.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Joseph Lobo said that an educated student always is aware of himself and his surroundings and makes good choices that will transform others. Prof Lourdusamy insisted on the role of institutions of higher learning in transforming youth towards community learning and sensitizing them regarding social needs.
Students of Milagres College, St Ann’s BEd College, and MAPS Evening College were present for the training sessions and benefitted from the same.
