Mangaluru, Sep 30: “There is a need to change format of Jayantis and the way they should be celebrated across the state,” said minister for Tourism, Kannada and Culture, C T Ravi.
Speaking at the review meeting held at DC office on Monday, September 30, C T Ravi said that the state government will take decision on the matter based upon the district level reports.
“This is a sensitive matter and I do not have any intention to politicize this. In the last one month, I have conducted 11 district level review meetings and will visit all the districts and collect necessary information. Certain Jayantis are celebrated by people of a particular caste. They are not widely celebrated. So I have urged in the meetings conducted so far to submit a report on the same. Based upon the reports, decision will be taken in the cabinet,” he said.
“As many as 30 Yatri Nivas have been approved in the state. However, it has come to my notice that in some places Yatri Nivas are not maintained. So maintenance has to be done and also audit is required,” he stressed.
C T Ravi showed displeasure over incompletion of the approved Yatri Nivas. “Since 2016, Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited stopped the work at half stage and I do not expect such development. Even after releasing the funds, it was not utilised. Government will release funds to develop Yatri Nivas for tourist promotion and the funds should be utilized and made ready for public use,” he said.
MLA's Rajesh Naik, Vedavyas Kamath, Deputy Commissioner Sindhu Rupesh and others were present.
