Udupi, Sep 30: Annual conference of Indian Society of Gastroenterology, Karnataka Chapter 2019 (K-ISGCON) was organized on September 28 and 29 at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital MAHE, Manipal by the department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
The inaugural programme of the annual conference of Indian Society of Gastroenterology Karnataka Chapter 2019 (K-ISGCON) was held on Saturday September 28 at Dr T M A Pai auditorium, KMC Manipal. The conference was inaugurated by Dr Y S Ravikumar IPS, Superintendent of Police, and Internal Security Division Bengaluru and presided over by Dr H S Ballal, Pro-Chancellor, MAHE Manipal. Dr Poornima Baliga B, Pro Vice-Chancellor faculty of Health Sciences MAHE, Manipal was the guest of honour of the programme. Dr Sharath Kumar Rao, dean, Kasturba Medical College and Dr Shiran Shetty, professor and head department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology were present.
On the occasion, Dr Ravi Kumar said, "After 40, everyone is concerned about diabetes and heart disease. Now it is the right time to raise awareness amongst the public, especially the youth about GI-related disease. As change in lifestyle of today's youth is largely effected by liver-related diseases."
Dr Ballal said, “Doctors should educate today's students on career using modern-day language instead of the old-fashioned education. That is why doctors need to improve their knowledge every day. Then only they can educate students and treat patients in a better way. It is only through such conferences that doctors can enrich their knowledge," he added.
Dr Poornima Baliga greeted all the delegates and organizers of the conference stating, "All delegates who visit the conference should visit the premises of MAHE, Manipal once." Dr Ganesh Pai, Professor of the department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, who is also an organizing president of the conference, gave an overview of the department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
International faculty, from Korea, UK and well known national faculty delivered lectures on various topics. Dr Bo-in-Lee from South Korea will be updating on Endoscopic Submucosal dissection and resection (novel way to remove cancer tissue by endoscopes and without surgery). This conference highlighted the various disorders like gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, biliary, liver and its latest treatment. About 250 delegates from across India attended the CME.
