Hassan, Sep 30: A private sleeper coach on its way to Kundapur from Bengaluru caught fire and burnt down completely. This incident happened at around 3 am on Sunday September 29 at Shantigram in Hassan district on national highway 75.

The ill-fated bus had 29 passengers, most of whom were bound for Kundapur. They were brought to Mangaluru in another bus and then arrangements were made to take them to Kundapur in the bus of the company which operated the bus which burned down.

It is said that short circuit near the engine caused this tragedy. As the fire could not be doused, the entire bus went up in flames. Although the fire brigade at Hassan was contacted, by the time the fire engine reached the spot, the bus was charred.

The bus staff showed presence of mind and brought out the passengers by breaking window glasses. Most of the luggage belonging to passengers were reduced to ashes, it is gathered.
