Davanagere, Sep 30: National president of Akhil Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha and Congress MLA Dr Shamanur Shivashankarappa, said that Veerashaiva-Lingayat religion has stayed united as of now because of chief minister, Yediyurappa. "When some people in the past tried to split the religion and create Lingayat religion for their own benefit, Yediyruappa solidly backed my stand that both the religions are one and the same," he said.
Shivashankarappa praised Yediyurappa for saving the religion from its imminent division. "When the people were in cross roads, Yediyurappa stood by me and said that he is committed to what I said and that he would follow the stand I took. His words instilled courage and confidence in me," he recollected.
