Madikeri, Sep 28: In connection with a case in which a man was trapped in honeytrap conspiracy and was forced to part with Rs 3.8 lac, the Kodagu district crime intelligence bureau has arrested six persons.
The arrested people are Muhammed Azharuddin from Napoklu, Abubakker Siddique (33), Hasainar alias Achchu (27), Irshad Ali (27), A A Sameer (28) and a girl student of a college. A sum of one lac rupees was recovered from them.
The police say that ten people were involved with this conspiracy, and they are looking for four more persons including the main accused. Two separate cases have been registered in this connection, said district superintendent of police Dr Sumana D Pannekar.
Gafoor from Yemmemadu village, who was working in Dubai was on a visit to his house during August this year. He had planned to build a new house for his family. Karim from Yemmemadu, who came to know that Gafoor had money, in connivance with local youth, planned to extract money from Gafoor. On August 16, they took Gafoor away with the stated purpose of buying household electrical goods from Mysuru. When Karim and Azharuddin were going to Musuru along with Gafoor, as planned earlier, they allowed a girl student of a college to board the vehicle at Kushalnagar.
For the night, the group rested in a homestay on ring road where the girl and Gafoor were allowed stay together. Gafoor was given some intoxicants, after which the accused took obscene photos and videos of Gafoor in the company of the girl. They snatched away foreign currency amounting to Rs 1.15 lac. They also threatened Gafoor with transmitting his video with the girl in TV if he failed to pay Rs 50 lac. Gafoor, in course of time, had paid them Rs 3.80 lac after which the accused had let him off the hook.
The police came to know after about a month about the honeytrap and found that Gafoor had become a victim. They convinced Gafoor to file complaint against the gang. When the sub-inspector of intelligence bureau and four others visited the house of Karim to arrest him, Karim fired a bullet at the police from inside the house in which sub-inspector, Hameed, escaped narrowly. Karim then fled with his two wives. A separate case under Indian Arms Act was registered against Karim and his two wives in this connection. The police are hopeful of collecting more details once Karim is arrested.
