Centum expands space electronics facility in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Sep 25 (IANS): Diversified products and services major Centum Electronics on Wednesday expanded its space electronics business with an additional facility in this tech hub to meet the needs of the burgeoning space industry, driven by the state-run Indian space agency.

"The Rs 50 crore new brownfield facility will generate 250 jobs in addition to the 700 we have in the space, defence and aerospace domains," Centum Chairman Apparao Mallavarapu said on the occasion.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman K. Sivan opened the new facility at Yelahanka in the city's northwest suburb.

The space agency's U.R. Rao Satellite Centre Director Kunhikrishnan and its scientific secretary Uma Maheswaran were present at the event.

"As a leading industry partner for the space agency (ISRO), we design, develop, qualify and manufacture electronic modules, sub-systems and systems for multiple applications in satellites and launch vehicles," said Mallavarapu.

In view of the growing number of space missions, the company has invested in scaling its capacity to meet the needs of ISRO, including components, modules, sub-systems and systems.

"The journey with ISRO, from delivering components to modules, subsystems and systems, has been demanding and rewarding to enable us to grow as an international player," added Mallavarapu.

The company also works in communication domains like analog, power, radio frequency, digital and mixed signals.

The 25-year-old firm with Rs 1,000 crore revenue operates across diverse industry segments and offers a range of products and services to domestic and overseas customers.
