Mangaluru, Sep 24: School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya observed National Service Scheme (NSS) Day and also celebrated the golden jubilee of NSS here at Maria Paiva Hall at Roshni Nilaya College on Tuesday, September 24.

Dr Rita M Noronha, retired professor, MSW, along with other dignitaries inaugurated the programme.

Addressing the gathering Dr Rita said, "NSS is the opportunity to do something for the society. It gives a lot of exposure to reality. When NSS was started, there was a laudable aim to promote the dignity of labour in judicious manner. Today, we are in a situation where we do not want to touch mother earth because of our coloured fingers and long nails.

“We have to address the problems in our own way. The world is beautiful but we are destroying it. We should be aware of these things, have some social concern, and know the causes for the problem. To know the causes, we must analyse deeply. Prepare a plan with vision, mission and objective in order to address the problem,” she said.

Meanwhile, former NSS officers and former NSS volunteers Deeksha, Chinthana I D, Rajkishan who bought laurels to the college were felicitated.

After receiving felicitation former NSS Volunteer Deeksha said, "Students think NSS means Shramadhan. It is not all about Shramadan, it is beyond that. NSS is the platform to show our talent, and it builds your confidence. It gives lot of exposure to reality.”

NSS officer Cecilia Farida Goveas welcomed the gathering, assistant NSS officer Sandeep Ullal proposed the vote of thanks and Ahammad Safwan compered the event.

Former principal Dr Jacintha D Souza, founder principal Dr Olinda Pereira, principal Roshni Nilaya Juliet C J, Prof Vineetha K, programme cordinators Donna Sharon and Abhishek Naik were present.
