Mangaluru, Sep 19: The department of Physical Education of Father Muller Medical College hosted a Mysore Zonal Intercollegiate Basketball Tournament which was held on September 16 and 17.
Eight teams from various colleges affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru, faced off the coveted basketball Mysore Zonal Championship at the fully air-conditioned Indoor Sports Complex of Father Muller Medical College.
An inaugural programme was held with a prayer song by Haritha and team, followed by a welcome address by Dr J P Alva, dean, FMMC. Alva welcomed the teams and urged them to play in the best spirit of the game.
Chief guest for the tournament was Sowkin Shetty, an international basketball player having been ranked number 1 in the 3*3 format.
The team of Father Muller Medical College (FMMC) won first place with A J. Institute of Dental Sciences winning second place. The matches were played in the spirit of competition and passion for the sport.
Fr Ajith Menezes, administrator, Father Muller Medical College, oversaw the whole event and handed over the trophies to the winners. Physical director, FMMC, Chandrashekar S N and Mysore Zonal Sports coordinator of RGUHS, worked meticulously in the scheduling of the events.
The sport complex at the Father Muller Indoor Stadium has basketball courts, badminton courts, with a gymnasium and table tennis space. The indoor stadium is also used for other sports-related activities, yoga and zumba too.
